RV Traveling Tales…Women’s Journeys on the Open Road by Jaimie Hall and Alice Zyetz

Danger!! Don’t read this book unless you are prepared to be bitten by the bug to hit the road. At every chapter I interrupted my husbands reading to tell him yet another story and sigh enviously at the freedom these women were experiencing. Reading much like a Chicken Soup  collection, this one is written with such depth of understanding of what makes female RV’ers tick.

From teens to elderly in their 80’s, it’s all there. I couldn’t put it down. I laughed: From “Ode to Boondocking” Nan waxes poetically(and not her legs),”Without a hot shower I get mean and cranky. Without a hot shower there will be no hanky-panky.” I nodded knowingly at Nicky Boston’s honesty:A survey said RV’ers don’t fight. Didn’t they ever give directions to their husband while he was backing into a camp spot?  My heart swelled up at Ardith Fenton’s courage when facing cancer and their Alaskan trip was planned. Ten days after the mastectomy they were on the road. Guts!

I’ve read Jaimie’s “Support Your RV Lifestyle! An Insider’s Guide to Working on the Road.” even though it’s about American full-timing. Within its pages I found ideas and inspiration. When I heard about RV Tales, I knew I’d enjoy it even more because after all women are women regardless of where they are.

RV Tales is interspersed with one page bits of wisdom. This book would make a great gift for a husband to give to his wife before they leave home, a family to give to their mom when she says we’re selling it all and running away from home.

I loved every moment of the journey with the authors and have but one regret: We are not at the right moment in our lives to hit the road permanently. For now it will have to  be 3 or 4 month chunks  to satisfy the gypsy in us. One day!!
